Rheumatology

A Rheumatologist is a physician that has expertise in the management of musculoskeletal conditions. In simple terms – joints, bones and muscles. In the old days, this was called rheumatism. Many conditions Rheumatologist’s treat have an inflammatory basis driven by an underlying immune process. This is often referred to as autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic disease. Rheumatology is a very systemic specialty with involvement and overlap with many other organ systems, so a Rheumatologist will also manage vascular, skin and other non-articular conditions.
